May 12–16, 2025
Focus: Self-Management, Social Awareness (Learning Standards 2B, 3B, 3D)
Themes: Growth Mindset and Resilience
  • Overcoming setbacks and learning from mistakes
  • Recognizing and appreciating different strengths
  • Valuing effort as much as (or more than) talent or ability
Parent Summary: Resilience, Self-Management & Growth Mindset
This week in advisory class, your child took part in lessons focused on developing three essential life skills: resilience, self-management, and a growth mindset. These skills empower students to navigate challenges, recover from setbacks, and believe in their ability to grow through effort and support.
Students engaged in discussions about whether success is driven more by talent or effort. They learned that consistent practice and effective strategies often outweigh natural ability. The class also explored the unique strengths each person brings to the table, promoting self-confidence and empathy.
A key part of the week involved sharing experiences with mistakes—and reflecting on what was learned from them. This helped normalize failure as an important part of the learning process.
Questions to Ask Your Child at Home:
  • Can you tell me about a time you made a mistake and learned something from it?
  • (This is a great opportunity to share one of your own stories too!)
  • What’s something challenging you're working on right now—and how can I support you through it?
  • (Help your child make the connection between effort and progress, and remind them they’re not alone.)

Business Spotlight: Rebecca Burns

WCEF is proud to partner with Rebecca Burns as a Gold Partner for the 2024-25 school year.

About being a WCEF partner, Rebecca says, "Being a Realtor in Walnut Creek is about being a part of our great community. There is so much excitement in helping my clients find, negotiate, and close on a home. However, my favorite part happens later. Getting emails about home additions, texts and pictures of new babies, and waves and wags around town...these are the things that fuel my passion for real estate. Happy homeowners, now a part of our community, make my job truly a privilege.

Beyond real estate, supporting causes like the Walnut Creek Education Foundation is a priority. Investing in our youth is investing in our collective future.

I’m grateful for the chance to connect in 2025; let's make this year one of connection and positive impact together!”
