Dear Walnut Creek School District Community,

As we step into February, our schools are buzzing with activities that celebrate the heart of our district: our students, their diverse heritages, and the compassion they show one another every day. This month, we are focusing on two significant celebrations: Black/African American Heritage Month, and the Turn Up the Heat campaign.  Additionally, we are pleased to share the 2026-27 Instructional Calendar.  And finally, I would like to ask that you complete this year’s Youth Truth family survey.
Celebrating Black History Month- Throughout February, we are honoring the rich contributions and history of Black and African Americans. Our schools are engaging with these themes in several ways:

  • Teachers are utilizing dedicated resources and lessons integrated into our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) calendar.
  • Our librarians are highlighting new materials from our district library audit to ensure diverse voices and stories are front and center in our collections.
  • Our work continues with partners like the National Equity Project providing support to elevate student voice and lean into listening opportunities among staff, students and families.
WCEF "Turn Up the Heat" Campaign- This February, we are also excited to support the Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF) through their annual Turn Up the Heat (TUTH) campaign, taking place from February 2–6. This initiative is vital for increasing participation and raising much-needed funds for our schools' elective and specialist programs, including art, music, science labs, and our credentialed librarians.

  • Why it Matters: State funding is not enough to provide these weekly programs for all students. Our community makes these programs possible through donations to WCEF, ensuring we don't have to choose between an open library and a weekly art class.
  • Get Involved: Look out for red envelopes and flyers coming home with your students. We also invite everyone to wear red on Wednesday, February 7, to celebrate WCEF and our schools!
Instructional Calendar- We are pleased to share our 2026-27 Instructional Calendar (Spanish).  Thank you for engaging in a productive conversation that helped shape an instructional calendar that meets the needs of all of our educational partners. We have worked collaboratively to create a calendar that honors the themes that emerged from your feedback. Those priorities included continuity of instruction, alignment with our Acalanes partners and childcare support during school holidays.  Please know we are also committed to developing the 2027-28 calendar in a timely manner.

Family Survey- We are asking every family for 15 minutes of time to complete an online survey that will help us improve your child’s school. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the country – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf. We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us. Surveying runs from February 2 - 27.  Use this link to begin the survey: ytsurvey.org/wcsdfamily26

Thank you for your continued partnership in making Walnut Creek School District a place of belonging for all.

Warmly,
Marie Morgan
