Walnut Creek, CA (May 28, 2026) – The Walnut Creek School District (WCSD) Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Campopiano as the next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.
Jon Campopiano brings three decades of experience in public education, a student-centered approach to teaching and learning, and a deep commitment to equity and achievement for all members of a learning community. His appointment follows a rigorous search process conducted in partnership with Leadership Associates, shaped by input from WCSD’s families, teachers, staff, and community members. His appointment is anticipated to be approved at the June 8 regularly scheduled board meeting.
Leadership Associates facilitated 19 community input sessions and collected 300 unduplicated survey responses from the WCSD community. The Board is grateful to the entire WCSD community for their thoughtful engagement and meaningful input.
The Board received 40 applications and carefully selected finalists for interviews. Mr. Campopiano demonstrated alignment with WCSD’s mission, vision and values and stood out as the best candidate to guide our school community forward, building on the existing strengths of the district and guiding an innovative vision for the future.
Mr. Campopiano currently serves as San Ramon Valley Unified’s Executive Director, Secondary Education after serving as the Principal of Stone Valley Middle School. In his current role, he is responsible for the academic and operational success of 13 schools, working alongside elementary directors and cabinet members to navigate the complexities that span the TK-8 continuum. Throughout his career as a teacher, principal, and district leader, Mr. Campopiano has been recognized for advancing student achievement, strengthening school connectedness, and building collaborative leadership systems that support both students and staff.
A longstanding resident of Walnut Creek with deep roots in local leadership and youth programs, Mr. Campopiano will apply his professional expertise in Strategic Governance and Systems Leadership to serve the WCSD community by fostering perseverance and a passion for learning. He holds a BA from the University of California, Davis and a Master of Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
